Description
This course will explore the PT and PTA team’s role within an interdependent and collaborative medical model. Inherent in the responsibilities associated with this role is the ability to recognize clinical manifestations that suggest that PT and PTA communication is needed regarding a patient’s health status. Professional communication between the PT and PTA, and with the patient/family member will also be a central theme.

Keywords: physical therapy

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast the PT and PTA team’s and physicians’ roles and responsibilities associated with the medical screening process.
  • Evaluate patient findings and decide whether communication between the PT and PTA is warranted regarding a patient’s health status.
  • Identify symptoms and signs, which warrant urgent communication between the PT and PTA.
  • Employ strategies to facilitate professional communication and interactions between PT and PTA team and ultimately between the PT and physician, including when, how and what to communicate regarding medical screening issues.
