Janet L. Kwiatkowski, MD

Dr. Kwiatkowski is an attending hematologist and Director of the Thalassemia Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the clinical presentation and risk factors of stroke in children with sickle cell disease.
  • Discuss the significance of transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasonography screening in children with sickle cell disease.
  • Discuss chronic transfusion therapy and its impact on stroke rate in children with high risk TCD studies.

Target Audience: Physicians, nurses, pharmacists,and physician assistants.
