Elizabeth Kirkland MD MSCR

Dr. Elizabeth Kirkland is an assistant professor of internal medicine at MUSC Health. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research. 

She is a practicing primary care doctor in Charleston and also cares for patients in the hospital with resident housestaff teams.  She is also an educator, directing Internal Medicine Resident Telemedicine curriculum.

Dr. Kirkland’s main research interests focus on health equity, telemedicine, and chronic disease management, particularly hypertension and diabetes. She has presented nationally and regionally on the topics of telemedicine, population health, and chronic disease management. She currently oversees a statewide program, Technology-Assisted Case Management in low income adults with Type 2 Diabetes (TACM-2), that employs remote patient monitoring to help manage hypertension and diabetes care for patients throughout the state of South Carolina. She also assists with several ongoing hypertension trials across the university and collaborates closely with MUSC’s Telehealth Center, one of only two HRSA-awarded national Centers of Excellence in telehealth.
