Mary T. Johnson-Lee J.D.
Mary Thomas Johnson-Lee was the first female to both live in and practice law in Chesterfield County, SC. She began in 1993 as an associate attorney in the Leppard, Henderson, and Spencer Law firm in Chesterfield, SC, and then was a solo practitioner from 1995 through 1999. Ms. Johnson-Lee served as a contract attorney for DSS prosecuting child abuse/neglect and vulnerable adult cases in the Family Court from 1993 to 1996, and she served as the County Attorney for Chesterfield County from 1995 to 1998; she remains the only female to have ever served as County Attorney for Chesterfield County, SC. Ms. Johnson-Lee was a part-time Assistant Solicitor for the Fourth Circuit Solicitor’s office from January 1997 to May 2000, primarily as Chief Juvenile Prosecutor for the Circuit. Following her then-husband’s job to the Midlands area, Ms. Johnson-Lee worked for 8 months as a legal aid attorney and then served as a State Administrative Hearing Officer with the SC Employment Security Commission until June 2005, at which time the family relocated back to Cheraw, SC. She returned to the Fourth Circuit Solicitor’s Office on July 1, 2005, after writing her own grant for a position as Narcotics Prosecutor. Since then, Ms. Johnson-Lee has worked continuously for 3 different Solicitors as a career prosecutor with the Fourth Circuit prosecuting every level of case from narcotics possession to murder. Her current position is Senior Assistant Solicitor, assigned to Chesterfield County, where she has a special focus on violence against women and children.
