Sherry Johnson

Sherry is the SHIP/SMP Outreach Coordinator of the Pee Dee Area Agency on Aging. She has been at Vantage Point Area Agency on Aging, a division of Care South Carolina for over thirty seven (37) years. Sherry previously worked with CareSouth Carolina Community Health Center for 5 years in different capacities as an insurance coder, account receivables and as Site Manager before transferring into the division of the Area Agency on Aging, which began in 1991.
Some of Sherry's accomplishments are: recipient of "Most Spirit Award", "Employee of the Year Award" in 1999 and again in 2010. She won "Gold Employee of the Year Award" and was voted first Employee of the month in 1999 and again in 2010. Sherry
also won the very first I{ARE (SHIP) "Counselor" Coordinator National Award in 1995, which was held in St. Louis, Missouri.
Sherry is married and the proud Mother of one daughter, son-law, two grandchildren and one fur baby named "Woodrow."
Mrs. Johnson completed her education at Ricks College in Idaho n 1979 and has attended Coker College in Hartsville, as well as Francis Marion University in Florence for additional classes over the years to maintain her continuing education units for the
SHIP Program and State Long Term Care "Ombudsman" Program. Sherry has also taken courses such as: "The "Omnibus Adult Protection Act for Long Term Care", sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services and Adult Protection Coordinating
Council.

Sherry has years of relevant experience in Medicare/Medicaid and Medicare Part D and C (Prescription Drugs) and other insurance. She is a Certified State Health Insurance Counselor, Senior Medicare Patrol Counselor and past Certified State Long Term
Ombudsman.
For the past 37 years, Sherry has worked in the aging network assisting seniors by providing information, training, and insurance counseling, fraud and abuse. To keep abreast of any changes and updates on Medicare and Medicaid in order to provide
accurate information to beneficiaries and caregivers, she has received numerous hours of additional training and continuing education opportunities. Recently, she has received
her twenty (24) hours update training and recertification for SHIP, SMP and MIPPA programs. Furthermore, Mrs. Johnson keeps abreast of the current changes in Medicare, Medicaid and Medicare Supplemental and Long Term Care Insurance through additional
webinars, which is offered monthly through The National Center Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), SHIP TA Center, National Consumer Voice Justice in Aging and attending monthly State meetings through the Department on Aging in Columbia, SC.
Sherry also holds CPR and First Aid credentials.
