Sheila Willis

Lead Community Health Representative
Sheila is a Lead Community Health Representative and Patient Navigator with the Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program at the Perlmutter Cancer Center/NYU Langone Health.  She was recently appointed as the New York State Ambassador to the National Association of Community Health Workers.

She began her career in patient navigation with the American Cancer Society, supporting women and men newly diagnosed with cancer across several Brooklyn communities, including Brownsville, East New York, and Flatbush. In that role, she provided patients and their caregivers with critical information, emotional support, and access to resources needed to help them navigate the challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis.

In her current position with the Welters Program, Sheila helps medically underserved women throughout New York City access mammography screenings and receive coordinated support across the full continuum of care, especially when a cancer diagnosis is identified. The program provides education on breast cancer risks, emphasizes the importance of regular screening, connects women with community-based screening services, and offers personalized guidance through treatment options for those diagnosed.

Sheila’s mission is to be a trusted link between communities and lifesaving health resources—raising awareness about screening and early detection while offering compassionate support that empowers individuals to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
