Clive Rosendorff MD, PhD, DScMed, FACC

Clive Rosendorff, MD, PhD, DScMed, is Professor in the Department of Medicine, the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute, and the Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health, all at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He is also Director of Graduate Medical Education at the James J. Peters Veterans Administration Medical Center in the Bronx, New York.

Dr. Rosendorff received his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and completed his postgraduate education with a medicine/surgery internship at Johannesburg Hospital in Johannesburg, followed by a residency in medicine and fellowship in cardiology at St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School in London, England. He served as Chairman of the Department of Physiology from 1970 to 1987 at the University of the Witwatersand and as Dean of the University of the Witwatersand Medical School from 1988 to 1991.He has had visiting professorships at Yale University, University of California, San Francisco, and INSERM/Hôpital Lariboisiere, Paris. He then relocated to the United States to become Vice-Chairman in the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Chairman of Medicine at the Bronx VA Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Rosendorff is an accomplished writer, researcher, and speaker, and serves on the editorial boards of 12 major cardiovascular journals. He has authored three textbooks and over 250 peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters on the subjects of hypertension, vascular biology, cardiovascular pharmacology, coronary blood flow, the cerebral circulation, and geriatric cardiology. He has lectured nationally and internationally on the topics of vascular biology and atherogenesis, preventive cardiology, especially as it relates to hypertension and lipid disorders, and acute coronary syndrome and heart failure. He served as chair of the AHA Guidelines Committee on the management of hypertension in patients with ischemic heart disease. He was also principal investigator of an international study of BNP in heart failure and is on a Steering Committee for the NIH-sponsored Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT).

Dr. Rosendorff is certified by the American Society of Hypertension as a clinical hypertension specialist, and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the International Academy of Cardiology’s Walter Bleifeld Memorial Award for Distinguished Contribution to Clinical Research.
