Pinar Emecen-Huja DDS, PhD

Dr. Pinar Emecen-Huja is originally from Ankara, Turkey. She received her dental degree and pursued her PhD training combined with specialty training in periodontology at Hacettepe University. Following her dental education, she was appointed to work as a visiting faculty at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry in Department of Periodontology. She also completed a Master’s of Science and a Certificate in Periodontology in the same institution. Following her graduation, she worked as a full time faculty at University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Division of Periodontics and Division of Oral Diagnosis Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology. Currently, she is a full time faculty in Division of Periodontics in Medical University of South Carolina, James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Emecen-Huja is interested in interprofessional education, integrated practice and promise of these concepts in clinical care. She also continues her clinical research efforts in her division. She presented numerous oral and poster presentations at national and international professional meetings on topics such as periodontal, peri-implant diseases and interprofessional education and practice in healthcare  She has several publications on peer-reviewed journals on topics characterization of periodontal inflammation and host susceptibility markers in periodontal and peri-implant diseases and relations between periodontal and systemic diseases.
