Anna Katheryn Burch MD

Dr. Anna-Kathryn Rye joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2008 after completing a research fellowship. Her fellowship was served in the Department of Pediatrics' Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. 

A cum laude graduate of the College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina, Dr. Rye earned a doctor of medicine from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina. She completed a pediatric residency at Greenville Hospital System University Medial Center, Greenville, South Carolina. 

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Rye's clinical special interests are Group A streptococcal infections, bacterial infections, antibiotic resistance, and infections in the intensive care unit. Her research interests are mechanisms of the Eagle Effect and the effect of antimicrobial classes on host inflammatory responses to gram-positive bacteria. She was recognized by
the Southern Society for Pediatric Research in 2007 as a finalist for the Basic Scientist Young Investigator Award.
