Wilma Rice MSN, RN, CEN

Wilma possesses a master’s degree in nursing, with a specialty in education. She has been a Certified Emergency Nurse since 1988, and formed her own business, Professional Medical Trainers, LLC, in 2012. She retired from Roper St. Francis Healthcare in March 2023 after more than 40 years.  She worked in the Emergency Department for 28 years, serving in various roles, including charge nurse, triage nurse, manager, and Emergency Services Educator before transitioning to Professional Development as an Education Specialist in 2007.

Ms. Rice has received honors and awards, including induction into Sigma Theta Tau in 2006 and the 2014 SC AHEC Educator of the Year. In 2020, she was awarded the Palmetto Gold Nursing Award. 

She has been involved with the South Carolina Coalition for the Care of the Seriously Ill (SC CSI) since 2011 and currently serves as Chairperson of the Education Committee and Senior Educator.  In this role, Ms. Rice works with several state initiatives surrounding advance care planning, including chairing the workgroup that was instrumental in the passage of the 2019 Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment law.

Though she is retired, Wilma remains active in nursing education and issues.
