Description
The purpose of this module is to provide information pertaining to NIH's definition of health disparities and healthcare disparities, description of COVID-19 and relationship to health disparities and healthcare disparities in the US, description of the effect of COVID-19 on different racial/ethnic groups in South Carolina, brief discussion of the population of South Carolina, its geographic health disparities, and other health disparities in South Carolina, presentation and discussion of models of the social determinants of health and their relationship to COVID-19 and health disparities, and presentation of a model linking social determinants of health with biological factors contributing to health disparities in COVID-19. This module contains a recorded presentation, post-training questions and evaluation.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • To broaden understanding of health disparities and healthcare disparities in the US.
  • To enhance knowledge related to geographic health disparities in South Carolina.
  • To increase knowledge related to the effects of the social determinants of health on COVID-19 and health disparities in the US and in South Carolina.
