***TWO DAY PROGRAM - MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS FOR CREDIT*** Primary Palliative Care Practices and Principles is a two day immersion course into the core skills and concepts of palliative care. Taught by two Palliative Care APRN’s, this class aims to teach providers, therapeutic services, and support services, what palliative care looks like and how to practice palliative care within your discipline. Some lectures include: Symptom Management, Pain Management, and Quality Improvement. Participants will receive a Palliative Care textbook, as well as other supplemental materials. Both breakfast and lunch will be provided on both days.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss palliative care.
  • Define palliative care.
  • Contrast palliative care with hospice care.
  • State four major disciplines involved in community based palliative care.
  • Recognize the importance of interdisciplinary care.
  • Examine safe pain management practices.
  • Summarize symptom management.
  • Predict the final hours of life.
  • Discuss how quality metrics are linked to financial aspects of palliative care.
  • Identify factors that influence communication in the palliative care setting.
  • Compare the benefits with the burdens of team work.
  • Point out essential elements of advance care planning.
  • Define unique aspects of the community.
  • Review concepts of palliative care.
