Description
GIS is a powerful tool that has been successfully implemented to help address a number of significant health issues ranging from disease management to improved services. GIS and related spatial analysis provide a set of tools for strategizing treatment and prevention of disease, keeping healthcare costs down, and delivering services to the communities most in need. The usefulness of GIS in healthcare is very broad. Public health departments, public health policy and research organizations, medical centers, hospitals and health insurance organizations utilize Geographic information systems to find innovative ways to address healthcare issues through location data.
