Description
This course is designed to better equip health care providers with information to better assist in the recognition and reporting of child abuse and neglect. “Red flags” or warning signs of abuse and neglect as well as reporting processes will be included. A “minimal facts” interview specific to law enforcement will be defined as well as the events that should occur following a report will also be addressed. This information, presented by a former medical examiner and forensic expert is a “must” for any professional interfacing with children.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • 1. State the nine types of child abuse and neglect stated in the SC statutes.
  • 2. Give an example of each of the nine types of child abuse and neglect.
  • 3. Describe signs and symptoms to look for in child abuse or neglect.
  • 4. Identify “Red Flags” or warning signs in a child abuse/neglect case.
  • 5. Describe how to report suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • 6. Describe what happens after a report is made regarding child abuse / neglect cases.
