Description
Participants will learn about the importance of cultural competence and cultural humility for healthcare professionals. This course includes a pre-test, assignments, post-test and evaluation. The module objectives are aligned to the following SC Health Science 1 Standard: Foundations of Healthcare Professions Standard 6: Ethics: Understand accepted ethical practices with respect to cultural, social, and ethnic differences within the healthcare environment. 6.2. Identify and discuss religious and cultural values as they impact healthcare (such as; ethnicity, race, religion, gender) and demonstrate respectful and empathetic interactions and treatment of all patients/clients within a diverse population (such as: customer service, patient satisfaction, civility).
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define culture, cultural competence, and cultural humility.
  • Identify the importance of cultural competence in the healthcare field.
