Description
This presentation will review the characteristics and behavioral signs of the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among young children, a neurodevelopmental disorder that now affects 1 in 68 children in the United States. Strategies for screening for ASD will be discussed, including specific screening tools and approaches for discussing ASD with parents and families. Lastly, recommendations for management and treatment of young children at high-risk for autism spectrum disorder will be reviewed, including referrals for evaluation and early intervention.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • At the completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to identify the behavioral signs of autism spectrum disorder and approaches for screening and managing ASD among young children and their families.
