Description
This webinar is part 3 of 3 facilitated discussions surrounding the book "Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic." Prior to the webinar, participants should read Parts IV & V (pages 303-362) and identify passages/concepts that they would like to discuss from the book. Participants do not have to attend previous book club sessions in order to participate in this webinar.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • identify the social determinants of health related to addiction
  • summarize the role medical practitioners played in the current opiate epidemic
  • explain the relationship between oxycodone and black tar heroin
  • assess how propaganda and publicity can influence opinion about oxycodone
  • identify political strategies used to address the opiate epidemic in the United States
  • analyze how cultural norms can impact patient and population health
  • demonstrate patient and family centered communication skills for substance use disorders
