Description
Participants will gain knowledge about rural and medically underserved areas in South Carolina. Several counties in SC will be highlighted regarding the low presence of practicing healthcare providers.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the difference between rural and underserved areas.
  • Discuss the shortages of healthcare providers in South Carolina.
  • Define Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
  • Define Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs) and Medically Underserved Populations (MUPs).
  • Discuss the need for information management in the healthcare industry.
  • Highlight careers related to health informatics.
