Description
This presentation reviews several terms, including privilege and social determinants of health (SDOH). The presenter uses storytelling to share how SDOH can impact health and well-being. Participants review various SDOH for populations in SC. The SDOH will focus on race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and racism. At the end of the session, participants have a difficult discussion about race, social class, and privilege using a virtual Modified Privilege Walk. Instead of a physical walk to show privilege, the presenter uses an illustration to show how different our backgrounds are and how privilege (or lack of privilege) may help or hinder our quality of life and overall health. This module contains a recorded presentation and evaluation.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define and describe privilege.
  • Define and describe social determinants of health (SDOH).
  • Discuss how privilege as a SDOH may impact health and quality of life.
