Description
This one-hour program will review the definition of disease according to the American Medical Association to include cause, symptoms, prognosis, and treatment. There will also be a discussion of medical terminology versus language frequently associated with substance use disorders in an effort to reduce stigma.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define disease according to the American Medical Association.
  • Identify non-stigmatizing medical language that should be used with substance disorders in accordance with best practices.
Disclosures
The Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) is a multi-year initiative supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to address barriers to access in rural communities related to substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder.
