Description
Staff nurses are being designated as a charge nurse earlier in their career today, frequently without understanding what is expected of them in this role. This class is designed to help these nurses navigate the role of charge nurse and the responsibilities that accompany it. Some of the covered subjects important to the charge nurse role include communication, conflict resolution, patient assignments and delegation, including many more.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the difference between transactional and transformational leadership styles.
  • Discuss charge nurse core competencies.
  • Identify the legal aspects and major responsibilities of being a charge nurse.
  • Identify signs/symptoms of compassion fatigue.
  • Discuss the basics of conflict resolution.
