Description
This session breaks down the connection between opioid overdose and brain injury in a way that makes sense for the day-to-day work of Community Health Workers. It covers what puts someone at risk for opioid or substance use disorders, how to spot common signs of brain injury, and how brain injuries can affect the care and support clients need. CHWs will also learn helpful ways to work with clients who have brain injury and get connected to important opioid abuse resources and hotlines.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the relationship between Opioid overdose and Brain Injury.
  • Identify risk factors for Opioid/Substance Use Disorder.
  • Recognize common Brain Injury symptoms.
  • Identify ways to work with clients with Brain Injury and how that may impact their care.
  • Identify Opioid abuse resources and hotlines.
