Description
This course will delve into the history of yoga to gain an understanding of how this ancient mind/body/breath/spirit practice is a valuable tool in today’s clinical practice. The course will explore evidenced based research on yoga outcomes and effects. We will break down anatomy of yoga postures to identify which postures are appropriate for treatment based on assessment and differential diagnosis of musculoskeletal dysfunction, neurological disorders, and chronic pain. We will discuss the power of the breath and effects on our nervous system. We will practice in lab yoga-based postures analyzing the components of alignment, strength, ROM, flexibility, and endurance. We will explore the importance of integrating the entire kinetic chain and breath as we strive to treat the root source of dysfunction. We will discuss and implement appropriate modifications using various props and cues. We will discuss appropriate rationale, goal setting and billing for yoga based therapeutic exercise.
