Description
Building on the success of Foundations of School Nursing, this advanced continuing professional development (CPD) program equips school nurses with the tools to strengthen their leadership, enhance practice effectiveness, and promote student health and safety. Through six interactive modules, participants will explore advanced topics including policy development, care coordination, legal documentation, data utilization, communication, and conflict resolution. Designed for nurses in all school settings—whether lead, district, private, charter, or per diem—this program frames and structures professional growth to align with the SCASN Vision, Core Values, and the NASN Framework for 21st-century school nursing practice.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate key components of the school nurse practice to enhance professional effectiveness.
  • Apply effective strategies for reviewing, revising, and implementing school nursing policies to support practice and advocacy.
  • Describe the multifaceted role of the school nurse in supporting school operations and management.
  • Identify legal risks in school nursing.
  • Apply documentation strategies to ensure legally defensible nursing practice.
  • Explain how school nurses use data and technology in practice.
  • Discuss effective communication and conflict resolution strategies to strengthen the school nurse’s role and advocacy within the school community.
