Description
The purpose of this interprofessional continuing education activity is to give primary care providers an update on best practice treatment recommendations from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) for commonly encountered infections in the ambulatory setting. Basic principles of antimicrobial stewardship will be discussed along with a review of antibiotic classification and a summary of antimicrobial spectrum of activity for each antibiotic class or individual antimicrobial agents. Additionally, any recently FDA-approved antibiotics will be identified and analyzed using the STEPS framework: Safety, Tolerability, Efficacy, Price, and Simplicity. Lastly, any clinically relevant antibiotic-associated adverse reactions or drug-drug or drug-disease antimicrobial interactions will also be highlighted for participants.

Keywords: antimicrobial, antibiotics, pharmacist, APRN, primary care, update
