Description
This course will review principles of oncology nursing practice, including the pathophysiology of cancer, safe handling and administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy, common chemotherapy and biotherapy drugs, radiation therapy, and oncologic emergencies. Day 1: 9:00am - 5:00pm Day 2: 9:00am - 3:30pm

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss cancer development and screening for common cancers.
  • Identify best practices for safe handling of chemotherapy and biotherapy.
  • Discuss the administration, side effects and uses of common chemotherapy and biotherapy drugs.
  • Describe the nursing care of patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
  • Discuss the prevention and treatment of oncologic emergencies.
