Description
This program will introduce students to diverse career opportunities in the mental and behavioral health field. Students will explore the variety of work settings where mental health professionals practice and learn how different roles work together as part of a collaborative care team. The session will also cover the education and credentials needed for various mental health careers and highlight current workforce opportunities across South Carolina.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify career opportunities within the field of mental and behavioral health.
  • Distinguish the different work settings where mental health professionals practice.
  • Describe roles of the mental health care team.
Disclosures
The sessions are presented as part of the South Carolina AHEC Health Careers Program targeted at high school, undergraduate, and gap year pre-health students. A certificate of participation is only given to those who attend and complete an evaluation. This program does not meet professional development requirements for practicing health professionals.
