Description
Medicare regulations for outpatient therapy are extensive and confusing. This course will cover all the key regulations for outpatient therapy and will assist therapists in understanding and applying this information in their daily practice. Myths that persist will be dispelled. Common audit flags will be presented, and therapists will learn strategies to ensure that their documentation meets regulatory requirements.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between services covered by Medicare Part A, Part B, and Part D.
  • Explain the Outpatient Medicare physician fee schedule and how it applies to therapy services.
  • Understand the outpatient therapy threshold issue, and when it’s appropriate to utilize the KX modifier.
  • Explain key documentation requirements for outpatient therapy for Medicare Patients.
  • Explain how Medicare views treatment by Aides and Students in various settings.
  • Discuss the principles of medical necessity for restorative and maintenance care.
