Description
While the availability of training opportunities for law enforcement/EMS, advocates/DSS, medical personnel, and attorneys to adequately respond to crimes against women, including sexual assault, domestic/intimate partner violence, stalking and strangulation is present, it has failed to reach the majority in the Pee Dee Region. This training aims to remedy this and reach both new and established staff at both orientation and refresher training sessions.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the need for forensic exams and their implications.
  • Explain the process of forensic exams.
  • Explain evidence collection time frames.
  • Discuss the signs and symptoms of DFSA, resulting in more immediate medical care for the victim, as well as a better knowledge base to use in court testimony.
  • Discuss the neurobiology of trauma and how it can affect a victim in the immediate aftermath of an assault, as well as a better knowledge base to use in court testimony.
  • Demonstrate a better knowledge of trauma-informed care, resulting in a better response to victims.
  • Demonstrate a better knowledge of domestic/intimate partner violence, resulting in a better response, as well as a better knowledge base to use in court testimony.
  • Explain non-lethal strangulation and the dangers of minimizing, resulting in more immediate medical care for the victim, as well as a better knowledge base to use in court testimony.
  • Articulate the lethality of strangulation, resulting in more immediate medical care for the victim, as well as a better knowledge base to use in court testimony.
  • Discuss stalking and its implications, as well as a better knowledge base to use in court testimony.
