Description
Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) is an evidence-based, interprofessional, multidisciplinary training program that equips the entire pregnancy care team with skills to effectively manage obstetric emergencies. This comprehensive course encourages a standardized team-based approach among physicians, residents, nurse midwives, registered nurses and other members of the pregnancy care team to improve patient safety and positively affect maternal outcomes. The course format is a blended classroom, which allows learners to work at their own pace to complete the online course portion prior to the live course skills assessment portion.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss methods of managing pregnancy and birth urgencies and emergencies, which standardizes the skills of practicing pregnancy care providers.
  • Demonstrate content and skill acquisition as evidenced by successful completion of course examination, skills workstations and group testing stations.

    Credit Statement
    The AAFP has reviewed Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) and deemed it acceptable for up to 8.0 AAFP Prescribed credit. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1. CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.
