Description
Many practitioners reported that they often make high-stakes decisions under pressure without a clear, repeatable process to guide their thinking. They also expressed a need for stronger tools to evaluate options, mitigate bias, and communicate decisions effectively across interdisciplinary teams. Many social workers and healthcare professionals are making complex decisions in environments marked by high caseloads, limited resources, and competing priorities. As a result, choices are often driven by urgency rather than strategy, leaving little time for structured reflection or long-range planning. Strategic decision-making can be tough in fast-moving care environments, especially when you're juggling limited resources, complex cases, and cross-team coordination. But making smart, intentional decisions is an essential leadership skill, and your secret advantage for improving outcomes and reducing stress.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze problems from both tactical and strategic perspectives to make well-rounded decisions.
  • Identify whether challenges are straightforward, complex, or chaotic, and select the right approach for each.
  • Determine your own current decision-making challenges using structured, hands-on exercises.
  • Develop strategies for ensuring decisions are understood, supported, and successfully implemented across teams.
