Description
Pee Dee AHEC's HCP team will lead an interactive healthcare career exploration experience designed to introduce middle and high school students to the wide range of opportunities available in the healthcare field. The program will begin with an engaging interprofessional patient care scenario, where students will work together to understand how healthcare professionals from different disciplines collaborate to provide quality patient care. Students will then participate in a presentation highlighting a variety of healthcare careers, educational pathways, and training options, learning about professions beyond traditional roles, the education and skills required for each, and the many pathways to a career in healthcare. The program will conclude with an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience, allowing students to step into a "Day in the Life" of several healthcare professionals through hands-on simulations that showcase real-world clinical environments, daily responsibilities, and the collaborative nature of healthcare, helping students make meaningful connections between their interests and future career opportunities.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least five healthcare careers by describing their primary roles within a healthcare team.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and communication skills while participating in an interprofessional patient care scenario.
  • Reflect on the VR "Day in the Life" experiences to determine which healthcare career(s) best align with my interests, strengths, and goals.
  • Compare the education, responsibilities, and work settings of multiple healthcare professions.
