Description
Pee Dee AHEC's HCP team will host Step by Step, an interactive program designed to engage high school students in exploring healthcare careers through virtual reality. Students will participate in immersive VR experiences that provide a "Day in the Life" perspective of various healthcare professions. Throughout the program, students will also observe and experience how the VR activities are conducted with other students and provide honest, real-time feedback about their experience. Their input will help Pee Dee AHEC better understand what students find engaging, educational, and meaningful, while identifying opportunities to improve future VR healthcare career exploration programs. Step by Step gives students the opportunity to not only explore potential healthcare careers but also play an important role in shaping how these experiences are delivered to future students.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Reflect on the VR "Day in the Life" experiences to determine which healthcare career(s) best align with my interests, strengths, and goals.
  • Compare the education, responsibilities, and work settings of multiple healthcare professions.
  • Identify healthcare careers explored through VR simulations.
  • Analyze their experience and identify elements that were engaging or could be improved.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the VR experience by providing meaningful student feedback.
  • Create recommendations to enhance future VR healthcare career exploration experiences.
