Description
Steady Path to Success: Healthcare in Action, is an interactive, hands-on student engagement experience designed to fulfill Lowcountry AHEC’s commitment under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Denmark Technical College to strengthen the partnership between both organizations. The experience will introduce students pursuing health science programs to Lowcountry AHEC, healthcare career opportunities, and the professional skills needed to succeed in academic, clinical, and workforce settings. Through an engaging healthcare-based simulation and collaborative activities, students will explore the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team while practicing communication, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and professionalism. Students will have the opportunity to apply knowledge to realistic healthcare scenarios, analyze patient situations, collaborate with peers, and reflect on how their academic preparation connects to their future healthcare careers. This experience will serve as the kickoff to Lowcountry’s Health Careers Program Steady Path to success initiative.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Develop an individual action plan connecting my academic and career goals to Lowcountry AHEC resources and opportunities, including professional development, mentorship, clinical exposure, and workforce preparation.
  • Apply effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving strategies during a hands-on healthcare activity.
  • Describe the roles of healthcare professionals and the importance of communication, teamwork, and professionalism within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
