Description
This presentation will provide a comprehensive review of defensive mechanisms for those struggling with substance use disorders. Family and significant other reactions that facilitate and propagate the denial process will be discussed.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 defense mechanisms common to individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorders
  • Describe how defense mechanisms used by the individual with Substance Use Disorder, impact their family members.
  • Discuss at least 3 common family reactions that worsen the denial process
