Description
Increased awareness of issues of bias; skills to promote cultural competence with sexual minority patients This program is brought to you in partnership with New Morning Foundation, a non-profit founded to reduce unintended pregnancy within a generations time. Choose Well is the initiative to accomplish this goal. In South Carolina approximately 50% of all pregnancies are unintended. Unintended pregnancies cost almost $79 million per year The average cost of providing birth control to a woman is about $250. The average cost of a baby born on MediCaid is $13,000. Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Name at least three impacts of homophobia on health seeking and health care
  • List at least four communication skills for health care workers to enhance cultural competence with LGBT consumers
  • Identify three key relationship factors that will assist health care workers seeking to enhance relationships with patients who are LGBT
