Description
The purpose of the 2023-2024 New Drug Update is to provide health care professionals with an overview of the current CDC immunization schedules, including updated recommendations for influenza, COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and pneumococcal vaccines. Additionally, participants will be presented with a synopsis of the 2024 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) Guidelines for the treatment of COPD and a summary of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) Guidelines for the treatment of asthma. This activity will also include a discussion of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association/Heart Failure Society of America (ACC/AHA/HFSA) 2022 revised treatment Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Heart Failure and an in-depth review of the ACC Expert Consensus Decision Pathway on Management of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF). The presentation will also summarize efficacy and safety data for newer weight loss medications, including Glucagon-Like-Peptide-1 (GLP-1) and Glucose-Dependent-Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) Receptor Agonists. Finally, this multidisciplinary CE program will conclude with a discussion of potential therapies for Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the new/updated vaccines and CDC recommendations including influenza, COVID-19. RSV and pneumococcal disease.
  • Describe the updated 2024 GOLD Guidelines for patients with COPD and 2024 GINA Guidelines for patients with asthma.
  • Discuss the updated American College of Cardiology/American Heart Assoc/Heart Failure Society of America 2022 revised Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Heart Failure and the 2023 ACC Expert Consensus Decision Pathway on Management of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction.
  • Describe the updated efficacy and safety data for the newer weight loss medications.
  • Discuss the significance and potential treatment of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) the new name for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
