Description
This class takes you beyond the basics of bandages and ice packs to dive into the real-world scenarios you face every day as a school nurse. Topics covered include GI illnesses, tracheostomy care, assessing substances, and basics of first aid care.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • list at least three types of eating disorders.
  • develop a care plan with at least three appropriate nursing interventions for eating disorder patients.
  • define constipation and identify at least three causes in school-aged children.
  • determine when to recommend referral to a pediatrician for signs of acute otitis media.
  • perform an otoscopic assessment safely, meeting at least 4 out of 5 steps on a checklist.
  • accurately describe the steps to record a student’s blood pressure using the correct technique.
  • identify at least three risk factors and two symptoms of hypertension in adolescents.
