Description
This comprehensive course provides rehab professionals with an in-depth understanding of the evaluation and treatment of cervical and thoracic spine dysfunction. Emphasizing current evidence-based practice, the course integrates anatomy, biomechanics, clinical reasoning, and functional movement analysis to improve outcomes for patients with cervical and thoracic dysfunctional. Participants will learn advanced manual therapy techniques, including joint mobilization, soft tissue interventions, and neuromuscular reeducation strategies to address common presentations such as mechanical neck pain, radiculopathy, thoracic mobility deficits, postural syndromes, and cervicogenic headaches. Special focus is placed on recognizing red flags, differentiating between musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal sources of symptoms, and applying safe and effective treatment progressions.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy, biomechanics, and efficient movement of the cervical and thoracic spine and rib cage.
  • Differentiate musculoskeletal conditions from red flags and non-musculoskeletal sources to ensure safe clinical decision-making.
  • Perform a thorough upper quadrant evaluation and reason through findings.
  • Interpret clinical findings to categorize patient presentations (e.g., mechanical neck pain, radiculopathy, cervicogenic headache).
  • Apply evidence-based manual therapy techniques such as joint mobilization including HVAT where appropriate, soft tissue techniques, and neuromuscular facilitation.
  • Implement functional movement, postural, and ergonomic interventions to optimize patient performance and reduce recurrence.
  • Design an effective home exercise program to ensure lasting improvements.
