Gain insights into some of the health risks (including stigma and discrimination) that exist for LGBTQ community, best practices that can be adopted to address/improve those risks, and other ways that interprofessional healthcare teams in rural communities can improve access and quality of care.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review terminology related to LGBTQI+ individuals
  • Review health and healthcare disparities faced by LGBTQI+ individuals
  • Provide participants information and tools to help improve knowledge of and comfort with LGB, Intersex, Transgender, and Non-binary patients
  • Appreciate the importance of integrating gender identity and sexual orientation awareness into medical education and practice
