Please join us at the 2025 Pediatric Symposium where a wealth of information will be presented by experts in their fields of expertise. Topics included in this year's symposium are child abuse, The Leatherman Behavioral Health Care Pavilion, organ donation, submersion injuries and an update on pediatric trauma.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Verbalize the types of child abuse.
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Describe South Carolina mandated reporting laws.
  • Demonstrate trauma-informed, patient-centered care when working with this victim population.
  • Identify scope and services provided by Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion (LBCP).
  • Discuss ways to partner with LBCP.
  • Discuss the critical need by reviewing the numbers.
  • Review testimonials from organ donor families about donation.
  • Identify the assessment and testing required for Organ Donors.
  • Review of new technologies leading to increased transplant potential.
  • Define submersion injury.
  • Recognize the prevalence and significance of submersion injuries.
  • Discuss the pathophysiology and mechanism of submersion injuries including V/Q mismatch.
  • Discuss the complications of submersion injuries.
  • Identify strategies for submersion injury prevention among vulnerable populations.
  • Describe the anatomic and physiologic characteristics of pediatric trauma.
  • Discuss the initial evaluation and resuscitation of pediatric trauma patients.
  • Develop confidence with trauma-related wound care, chest tubes and surgical drains.
  • Recognize common injury patterns and injury “red flags”.
