Description
Students are invited to explore the world of healthcare through the experiences of a Family Medicine Resident and a Physician Assistant. Both will share their career journeys, daily responsibilities, and real-world experiences. Participants will gain practical advice for pursuing a career in medicine, insights into medical training, and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Compare the educational pathways for becoming a Physician Assistant and a Physician.
  • Describe different settings where medical providers work.
  • Identify patient populations treated by medical providers.

The sessions are presented as part of the South Carolina AHEC Health Careers Program targeted at high school, undergraduate, and gap year pre-health students. A certificate of participation is only given to those who attend and complete an evaluation. This program does not meet professional development requirements for practicing health professionals.
