This program will discuss effective ways to talk with teens about drug use. It will also take a look at ADHD, Depression and other conditions that teens self-medicate.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define Adolescents and discuss possible reasons they would use drugs.
  • Identify controversial issues surrounding marijuana use.
  • Discuss "Emotional Detachment" in adolescents.
  • Discuss ADHD, Depression and other conditions that teens and adults self-medicate.
  • Identify techniques to assist medical professionals when counseling adolescents about drug use.
The Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) is a multi-year initiative supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to address barriers to access in rural communities related to substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder. It is the policy of Mid-Carolina AHEC, as well as of South Carolina Nurses Association/American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all educational activities.
