Description
While other countries have reduced their maternal mortality rates since the 1990s, the U.S. maternal mortality rate continues to rise. Despite decades of technological advances in science and medicine, overall maternal mortality rates in the U.S. have increased significantly in the last decade and the increase is largely driven by racial and economic disparities. This session will focus specifically on Black Maternal Health outcomes, why they differ from other population groups and what can be done to address this issue.

Keywords: IPC

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review current Black Maternal Health outcomes
  • Discuss challenges for maternal care in rural and underserved communities
