Description
This presentation will highlight the role of CHWs in bridging rural, at-risk communities and chronic disease awareness with accessible screening tools and motivational interviewing using telemedicine methods. The ITALIC Study primarily focuses on the use of a low-cost, accessible fasting glucose tool to screen for diabetes, and measuring the effect of CHW support over a telemedicine call on test completion, test results, patient trust and empowerment, and the rate of follow-up appointments scheduled if a positive test result is received. However, the implications of the study are widely applicable to the vital roles CHWs carry in making care more accessible for countless individuals who may experience barriers to obtaining proper healthcare and screenings.

Keywords: chw, colab, diabetes, telemedicine, motivational interviewing, health screening, rural health, risk
