Description
This session highlights how CHWs can effectively support breast health in communities across South Carolina through engaging and culturally responsive outreach and education. It showcases Welter’s innovative approach to discussing screening, thoughtfully integrating social determinants of health to meet people where they are. Participants will explore key breast cancer risk factors, the importance of early detection, and the critical role CHWs play in guiding individuals through the screening process. Real-world case studies and common client questions bring the content to life, equipping CHWs with practical tools and strategies to navigate breast health conversations with clarity, compassion, and impact.

Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe strategies to provide outreach and education about breast health to communities in select areas of SC.
  • Describe Welters approach to communicating about screening taking into social determinants of health.
  • Identify risk factors of breast cancer and methods of early detection.
  • Review examples of typical questions.
  • Discuss case studies.
