This course is designed to enhance the participant's knowledge and clinical skills for performing adult physical assessments. Multiple assessment tools and techniques, including in-depth pain assessment, will be reviewed. Areas of assessment for cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems are discussed. Common systemic disease abnormalities and presentations, including those associated with abuse, are included. Case studies are a part of the course to allow participants a chance to apply new knowledge/skills learned.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the components of an adult physical assessment.
  • Describe respiratory assessment guidelines.
  • Explain cardiovascular assessment guidelines.
  • Identify neurological assessment guidelines.
  • Describe musculoskeletal assessment guidelines.
  • Describe assessment guidelines for other body systems to include: GI, GU, Endocrine, Integumentary.
  • Apply assessment criteria to patient presentations via case studies.
