Description
This is a virtual training focused on strengthening suicide prevention efforts in rural behavioral health settings and rural communities more broadly. The training reviews the current state of the adult suicide crisis in South Carolina, highlighting key risk factors and service gaps in rural and medically underserved communities. Participants are introduced to multiple free and evidence-based suicide screening and assessment tools appropriate for use in rural behavioral healthcare environments. The training also will share several critical strategies to strengthen suicide prevention efforts more broadly in rural behavioral health settings and rural communities.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the state of the behavioral health crisis (adult suicide) in rural SC communities
  • Discuss multiple screeners and assessment tools that could be used within a rural behavioral healthcare setting to recognize and assess adult suicide risk
  • Describe critical strategies to strengthen suicide prevention efforts that could be implemented within a rural behavioral health setting or rural community.
