Description
What would you do after a needlestick injury? In this interactive online module, you will face realistic healthcare scenarios, practice essential safety protocols, and walk away with the bloodborne pathogen knowledge that protects you and your future patients.
Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the three primary bloodborne pathogens and their associated transmission risks, prevention strategies, and treatment options.
  • Explain the chain of infection and how bloodborne pathogens are transmitted in healthcare settings, distinguishing between high-risk and low-risk exposure scenarios.
  • Apply the six-step post-exposure protocol in the correct sequence following a simulated bloodborne pathogen exposure incident.
  • Differentiate between engineering controls, work practice controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) within the hierarchy of controls, selecting the most effective prevention strategy for a given healthcare scenario.
  • Evaluate real-world healthcare scenarios to determine appropriate standard precautions, isolation protocols, and PPE selection based on patient status, exposure risk, and CDC/OSHA guidelines.
